The Mare Island PedalFest

09/29/2019 10:00am

Race or ride through 142 years of naval shipyard history in support of the VINE TRAIL.

Inspired by Congressman Mike Thompson’s initiative to get more people moving by bike, the Mare Island PedalFest is an all ages and abilities gathering for two-wheel fun, food, frivolity ... and fundraising.

Full of fanfare, food, fun, beverages and beer, Mare Island PedalFest is a fund raiser for the Mare Island Historic Park Foundation (Museum) and the NAPA VALLEY VINE TRAIL COALITION.

Mare Island PedalFest will feature three family-friendly components:

  • The Wet Mile Urban Cyclo-Cross: a series of multi-lap cyclo-cross races around the unique urban and park landscape of this historic former shipyard (all levels)
  • Lap of the Shipyard: a family-oriented bike tour showcasing the historical landmarks of the island
  • The BMX Experience: an ongoing BMX exhibition and kids clinic with Olympian Donny Robinson

If you've never watched or raced cyclo-cross, you're in for a treat! Cyclo-cross is different from other bike racing: where else do racers make full-speed bike mounts & dismounts, and run up stairs & over hurdles with their bikes hoisted on their shoulders! This is fun stuff and audience heckling is encouraged.

And did we mention beer? The festival (and start/stop of the race) is hosted by the Mare Island Brewing Co. on the “Wet Mile” waterfront promenade of Mare Island. Beer taps and BBQ will be flowing and the music playing. Feel free to bring your own lawn chair and enjoy the races and waterfront views.

Come ride. Come watch. Come experience. Come support the VINE TRAIL!
